Delta’s Lift Restaurant Introduces ‘A True Canadian Experience’!

By on January 24, 2016

The restaurant scene in Ottawa is undergoing a change where hotel restaurants are concerned. Gone are the days when hotel restaurants were mostly frequented by tourists and guests, and the quality and caliber of their food were anything but exciting.

With all things, time shifts and brings forward fresh and innovative ideas. And that is exactly what the Delta Hotel’s Lift restaurant is doing as they launch their “True Canadian Experience” event.

The Delta Hotel has recently gone through an extensive transformation. One significant addition was the hiring of Executive Chef Jason Duffy. Chef Duffy won silver at the 2012 Gold Medal Plate Competition and has since left his culinary mark on very satisfied guests.

Chef Duffy, leading the True Canadian Experience event, will be joined by Delta & Marriott Hotels’ chefs from across the country. The chefs will be representing the focal regions of the menu – Ontario, Quebec, Alberta and the Maritimes. The evening will also feature local musicians and skilled artists, such as painters and sculptors, which will be highlighting Ottawa’s vibrant art scene.

LIFT is stepping up as the new venue providing a platform for local artists to showcase their talents in Ottawa!

Representing local fares, the tasting menu for the night is inspired by all things ‘true north strong and free’.

‘The True Canadian Experience’ Chefs and their menu

Executive Chef Jason Duffy: Executive Chef at Delta Ottawa City Centre will be representing Ontario with Ontario duck sourced from Mariposa Farms as well as Lake Erie pickerel. The beautiful fruit and vegetables of Ontario will also play a large part at this station.

Executive Chef Stefan Mueller: Executive Chef at Delta Beauséjour in Moncton, NB will be representing the Maritimes with an amalgamation of East Coast seafood offerings including PEI lobster, New Brunswick oysters and crab as well as Newfoundland cod.

Executive Chef Eric Larom: Executive Chef at Calgary Marriott Downtown and TELUS Convention Centre will be preparing AAA Alberta beef as well as Alberta Bison, served up in various delicious ways.

Executive Chef Robert Gendreau: Executive Chef at Delta Montreal will be combining sweet and savoury for the evening. As a tribute to the maple industry in Quebec, certain elements of the “sugar shack” will appear in his offerings that will include Quebec pork and some more wild components such as pheasant and venison.

Admission to the event includes:

• Exclusive access to a one-of-a-kind culinary event.
• Canadian-inspired live food stations by Chefs representing each region (Alberta, Ontario, Quebec and the Maritimes).

• Wine stations – Small Wine Makers.
• Crafted cocktails – SplitTree curated with Delta’s Bartender Lynsey.
• Live music featuring local artists.
• Also featuring local painters, sculptors, etc.

A menu which truly is a celebration of the best of everything Canada has to offer.

Not only will guests at the event have the pleasure of being entertained by local artists and be wined and dined by talented chefs, their names will also be entered in a raffle, which will be drawn on Friday, January 29th. The lucky winner will win a Valentine’s Day weekend hotel package consisting of an overnight stay at the Delta Ottawa City Centre hotel, a beautiful dinner and breakfast at the Lift restaurant.

Date and Time: January 27th, 28th and 29th, 2016 from 5:30pm to 8:30pm including a two-hour beer and wine tasting.

Any excuse to enjoy Canadian dishes prepared by talented chefs using their region’s signature ingredients is a reason to celebrate. Now cap that off with entertainment provided by musicians and local artists and what more could you want when celebrating Canada’s charms!

Friday night, I had the privilege of attending the 2024 Canadian Culinary Championships - Mystery Wine Challenge - People's Choice Award🥇🥇@greatkitchenparty

Congratulations to all the chefs involved in this intense competition. The chefs needed to create a dish to pair with the mystery wine. Each chef was given a tricky budget of $550 for the 250 guests. I was witnessing creativity at its best!!😋

The winning dish🥇 (centered in the middle of the photo) was created by JP Dublado: Red Deer Resort and Casino, Red Deer AB

Amazing talent from all the chefs as they paired with the mystery wine (a 2021 Lailey Vineyard Zweigelt)🍷🍷
