4th National Capital Region Culinary Competition & Gala

By on February 24, 2016

Ottawa, the Nation’s Capital, is fortunate to have many talented chefs and brilliant culinary instructors. Chefs and instructors that not only showcase their craft and talent, but also mentor those that would like to follow in their culinary footsteps.

A great example of such mentoring is the 4th National Capital Region Culinary Competition. This event, which the general public can attend, is an extraordinary evening that highlights and demonstrates the talent of young and upcoming chefs from across the Ottawa region.

Sponsored by the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, the competitors, assisted by students of La Cité, must create dishes inspired by the German culinary culture.

We are delighted that our country will be the inspiration of this new edition. It is for us an opportunity to promote our culture and to demonstrate solidarity with the community” – Werner Wnendt, Ambassador of Germany in Canada.

As much as it’s great for young aspiring chefs to participate in such competitions in which they can exhibit their talents through hard work, it is also important to note that the proceeds from the event will benefit The Vanier Community Service family services, including the HIPPY program (Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters). And if that wasn’t enough, the event will also be providing two scholarships for students at La Cité!

Important information to know:

There will be several competitions, all inspired by this year’s theme of Germany:

• The Annual Culinary Competition
• The Artistic Chocolate Competition
• The Wedding Cake Competition

It is yet another opportunity for our students to be exposed to the standards required for a high-level competition, and following last year’s success, we will also be renewing the artistic pieces contest” – Mr. Wayne Murphy, Coordinator/Professor, Culinary Arts and Culinary Management Programs, École d’administration, d’hôtellerie et de tourisme, La Cité.

The fundraising event includes the various culinary competitions as well as a German themed gala dinner hosted by the Ambassador and his wife in collaboration with La Cité.

The stunningly beautiful Trafalgar Falls, located in the Trois Piton National Park!!😍😍

These famous twin waterfalls are a 20-minute drive from Dominica's capital, Roseau. It's a short 10 to 15 minute walk along a well-maintained path to the viewing platform, where you can photograph both falls.

Fun fact: The smaller waterfall has cool refreshing water, whereas the tall one is a hot spring.💧🔥

Dominica's natural beauty is endless!!😍
