France, the epicentre of all great tasting food is inviting the world to join their beautiful country as they host its second edition of Goût de France/Good France.
1,500 Chefs and 1,500 Menus on 5 Continents = An epic culinary experience for the world to enjoy!
Auguste Escoffier, deemed the father of modern French cuisine and universally recognized as the finest master chef of the 20th century started Les Dîners d’Épicure (Epicurean Diners) which goes something like this…One day, One menu, served in cities around the world to as many guests as possible.
In 2015, the first edition of Goût de France/Good France took the idea further, bringing all categories of restaurants (bistro, brasserie, contemporary, or haute cuisine) together globally. The idea of this unique worldwide event was organized by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development and by the great French Chef Alain Ducasse.
The second edition of this international event will once again endorse French cuisine’s recent UNESCO listing as an “Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity” as its culinary influence on the world.
On March 21st, 2016 Goût de France/Good France will celebrate French gastronomy worldwide for all to enjoy! With over 1,500 chefs on five continents, the Goût de France/Good France event will unite chefs from all horizons and from around the world on the same evening, with one shared goal: celebrate the excellence and creativity of French gastronomy.
France is inviting the world on a culinary journey!
Participating restaurants will be designing a menu based on the following sequence: aperitif and canapés, starter, main course(s), cheese, dessert(s), French wines and champagnes. Each recipe will be based on cuisine that uses less fat, sugar and salt and shows concern for “good food” and the environment.
Participating chefs are encouraged to blend their own culinary culture to that of France, rather than discounting it.
Canada has 27 restaurants that will be participating this year, from all over Canada. In the first edition, in 2015, Canada had 18 eateries involved and hopefully with each passing year the numbers will keep rising.
Date and Time: March 21st, 2016. (For restaurants that are closed on Monday, March 21, 2016, the event will take place on Tuesday, 22 March 2016).
Where: Select restaurants as well as French embassies around the world, will be participating in the event. To find a restaurant that is close to you, please click here.
*Cost: The price varies from restaurant to restaurant as its left to their discretion.
*Each participating eatery will commit to donating 5% of the proceeds to a local NGO (non-governmental organization) promoting health and the environment.
For a food lover, this event seems like a dream! A French dream at that!
It’s absolutely amazing to know that Escoffier‘s vision is now becoming an annual event. Pretty much the entire world will simultaneously be joined by the love and respect of French food and its long-standing tradition.
